Sett-surveying continues all year round, so as we waited for the Beast from the East to show up here in Somerset, some of us got out yesterday in the cold but sunny weather to check a new area. Sadly the setts were long since abandoned so we found no signs of badger activity here. However, it appears the game-keepers had been very active!
Hanging from a tree and along a fence was five dead corvids, strung-up by their feet. why? we have to ask ourselves, why would someone do this? The next horror was a trap for squirrels or smaller mustelids. I guess pheasants take precedence over the rest of our wildlife and balanced ecosystem here in OUR countryside?
