On Saturday 3rd December we joined our friends at Devon County Hunt Sabs to visit the Lamerton Hunt, who were meeting at Burnville near Lydford. Upon arrival, the landowner who was hosting the meet informed us that their day was going to be much like a “treasure hunt” (seemingly the type of treasure hunt which requires terriermen).
Soon after leaving the meet, the hunt tried to draw their first covert. However, as we started calling the hounds they had a quick consultation and decided to make a run for it onto the moors. With various teams of sabs positioned in the area, we followed onto the moor where we later bumped into the Spooners and West Dartmoor Hunt, hunting very close by (and being sabbed by another group). Their hounds were paying little attention to the huntsman and some riders were already giving up for the afternoon. With the Lamerton running deep into the moors, and the Spooners being in disarray, the hunt support were not having a good day. We stayed in the area until both hunts had packed up. Thanks to DCHS for having us!
